Advocacy workshop for
the local news paper editors on HIV / AIDS & STDs

Series of
collaborative training program were organized for the Doctors, Lab-Technicians,
Counselors, Project Managers and Health Workers covering the whole of West
Bengal on HIV / AIDS / STDs prevention and control work with in active
co-operation and involvement of Calcutta Medical Colleges, School of Topical
Medicine and government of West Bengal, Dept. of health and family welfare, and
state Aids Cell.

Concept of
District AIDS Resource Center (DARC)
The main
objective for establishing DARCs are
- To identify an NGO at the
district level for setting up the District AIDS Resource Centre (DARC) to
facilitate the DARC activities in the district
- Encourage people to work in
full spirit.
- To work at the district
level as a coordinating agency in the field of human care activities in close
association with the Dist. level govt. officials.
- To sensitise the youth &
adolescents about HIV / AIDS as well as public health.
- To create a resource group
from the trained students who would shoulder the responsibility of AIDS
awareness as well as public health program
- Promotion of positive
health.
- Collection, storing and
distribution of IEC materials among the target groups.
- Assessment of Knowledge
Attitude and Practice (KAP) of the targeted community.
- Help partner NGOs to respond
promptly to the outbreak of any disease at the district–level caused by
natural calamities

Few Facts
Of the 30 million
people living with HIV in the world.
9 out of 10 do not know
they are infected.
7,000 young people aged
10-24 are infected with HIV every day.
Five young people are
infected with HIV every minute.
1.7 million people are
infected with HIV every year in Africa.
700,000 young people are
infected with HIV every year in Asia and Pacific.
By the year 2020
there will be over 40 million orphans under the age of 15 in 23
countries highly affected by HIV / AIDS.
Most of these children
will have lost their parents due to AIDS.
